Short answer
Airship describes itself as a mobile-first, cross-channel customer experience platform, and its product now spans far more than push. That breadth is the reason some teams stay and the reason others start looking. Before you compare alternatives, write down the one thing Airship is not doing for you. The list below is organized around those reasons.
Airship's pricing page shows two options. The Airship Experience Platform (AXP) covers email, SMS, RCS, MMS, push, web notifications, mobile wallet, app and web experiences, with journey orchestration, segmentation, testing, partner integrations and strategic services. Airship Essentials is a self-service, no-code plan aimed at growth teams building app and web experiences. Airship's Scenes feature sets up multi-screen in-app experiences with no development required, and its AI agents are positioned to automate ongoing optimization.
AXP is sold through a quote, and the Essentials price is not listed on the pricing page. Airship's billing documentation defines audience units such as monthly active users (unique users who opened an app in a calendar month), monthly unique visitors and contacts, and bills Scenes, a Native App Experiences add-on for AXP contracts, by impressions.
None of these is a flaw in Airship. They are mismatches between what a team needs and what it is paying for, and each one points to a different alternative below.
Each alternative had to send mobile push and in-app messages through its own SDK, support at least one more channel and multi-step journeys, and be sold to new customers in October 2026. We read plan names, billing units and published prices on each vendor's pricing and product pages in October 2026, and we say where a price is quoted. We did not run campaigns on these platforms.
| Alternative | Choose it if | Billing unit | Pricing (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Braze | You want a like-for-like enterprise platform | MAU and profiles, plus Action Credits | Quoted; free trial offered |
| OneSignal | You want to start free and pay by usage | Mobile MAU, web push subscribers, email sends | Free; Growth from $19/mo plus usage |
| CleverTap | You want analytics and engagement together | MAU or data points, by contract | Core from $85/mo for up to 5,000 MAU |
| MoEngage | You run app and web for a consumer brand | Monthly Tracked Users (MTUs) | Growth and Enterprise quoted |
| Insider One | Website personalization matters as much as the app | Not published | Not published; demo |
| Pushwoosh | Push leads and you want one simple metric | Per 1,000 MAU | Free to 1,000 MAU; Omnichannel $13 per 1,000 MAU |
| Customer.io | Email carries as much as push | Profiles and email volume | Essentials from $100/mo, billed monthly |
If you are leaving Airship for a peer rather than for something smaller, Braze is the obvious comparison. It sends push, in-app messages, banners, content cards, email, SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp, KakaoTalk and LINE, builds journeys in Canvases, and includes locations and geofences, frequency capping and BrazeAI tools in every tier.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Braze Go, Select, Pro and Enterprise editions; a contract combines an edition, monthly active users and profiles, Action Credits for messaging and some AI features, and services. Prices are quoted, and a free trial is offered. Limits: it does not solve a pricing visibility problem, since Braze also quotes. Our Braze alternatives guide covers that tier's own tradeoffs.
OneSignal covers mobile push, web push, in-app messages, Live Activities, email, SMS and RCS with a visual journey builder and an AI agent. Growth is month-to-month, which suits a team testing whether it really needs a large platform.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Free at $0, with unlimited mobile push for apps with up to 1,000 monthly active users. Growth starts at $19 a month plus $0.012 per mobile MAU and $0.004 per web push subscriber, with in-app messages included with mobile push and 20,000 free email sends a month, then $1.50 per 1,000. Professional and Enterprise are annual and custom. Limits: SMS and RCS pricing goes through sales, and Growth allows 5 active journeys. If you are already comparing OneSignal itself, our OneSignal alternatives post looks at its ceiling.
CleverTap combines push, in-app messages, app inbox, web push, email, SMS, WhatsApp and RCS with funnels, cohorts, session analytics and uninstall tracking. Its CleverAI layer ranges from assisted orchestration on Core to agentic orchestration on Ultimate.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Core starts at $85 a month for up to 5,000 MAU, with taxes and add-ons extra and billing starting after a 30-day trial; Pro and Ultimate through a demo. Limits: WhatsApp and Email Direct are add-ons on every plan, and RCS is available only on Pro and Ultimate, as an add-on. Our CleverTap alternatives post covers the reasons teams leave it too.
MoEngage lists email, push, SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, paid media audiences, in-app and on-site messages and content cards, plus web and app personalization. Growth covers behavioral personalization and a visual journey editor; Enterprise adds catalog-based recommendations, local data servers and IP whitelisting.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Growth and Enterprise through "Let's Talk", sized by Monthly Tracked Users. Limits: like Airship, it quotes, so it suits teams leaving for fit rather than for price transparency. Our MoEngage alternatives page covers its own tradeoffs.
Insider operates as Insider One today (useinsider.com redirects to insiderone.com). Alongside app push and in-app experiences, it covers web personalization, site search, web push, email, SMS and RCS, WhatsApp, InStory and conversational CX, with its Agent One AI layer.
Pricing (as of October 2026): not published; demo. Limits: a large suite to adopt if your program is app-only. Our Insider alternatives post compares it with peers.
Pushwoosh covers mobile push, in-app messages, web push, email, SMS, WhatsApp and wallet passes, with a journey builder, segmentation, A/B testing and its ManyMoneyAI copilot. It says every capability is available on every plan.
Pricing (as of October 2026): free while a project stays within 1,000 MAU; Omnichannel at $13 per 1,000 MAU; Email only at $5 per 1,000 monthly unique recipients; Push only at $7 per 1,000 MAU as a limited offer until December 31. Limits: WhatsApp, SMS and other messenger channels also carry third-party fees (for WhatsApp, Meta bills its own message charges) on top of the Pushwoosh plan.
Customer.io includes unlimited push and in-app messages and mobile SDKs on every plan, with email, SMS, WhatsApp, LINE, a visual workflow builder and an AI agent in beta.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Essentials from $100 a month, billed monthly, with 5,000 profiles and 1 million emails a month; Premium from $1,000 a month, billed yearly; Enterprise quoted. Limits: Essentials includes 5,000 profiles, and because pricing follows profiles, the bill grows with your total audience rather than only active users.
Airship stores each device, email address or phone number as a channel with its own ID, holding opt-in status, device details and targeting metadata. Ask your new vendor how it imports that state, because a user who opted out must stay opted out. Then list every Scene, journey and wallet pass you run today and confirm the replacement for each. Check wallet passes early: Pushwoosh is the only alternative here that lists them on the pages we read. Run both platforms in parallel on a small audience before you move push sending, so frequency caps and suppressions carry over cleanly.
Go back to your reason. Leaving for price visibility points to OneSignal, Pushwoosh, CleverTap Core or Customer.io, which all publish entry prices. Leaving for a different enterprise partner points to Braze or MoEngage. If analytics is the gap, start with CleverTap, and if the website is the gap, Insider One. Our wider list of mobile marketing platforms includes Airship itself for a side-by-side view, and our mobile attribution tools roundup covers the measurement partners that sit next to whichever platform you pick.
What is the best Airship alternative?
It depends on why you are leaving. Braze is the closest match for a large multichannel program. OneSignal and Pushwoosh suit teams that want published, usage-based pricing. CleverTap and MoEngage add built-in analytics, Insider One adds web personalization alongside the app, and Customer.io fits teams where email carries as much weight as push.
Does Airship publish its pricing?
Not as list prices. As of October 2026, the Airship Experience Platform (AXP) is sold through a quote, and Airship Essentials is a self-service plan whose price is not shown on the pricing page. Airship's billing documentation defines audience units such as monthly active users, monthly unique visitors and contacts, and bills Scenes (a Native App Experiences add-on for AXP contracts) by impressions.
Which Airship alternative has a free plan?
OneSignal has a free plan with unlimited mobile push for apps with up to 1,000 monthly active users, and Pushwoosh is free while a project stays within 1,000 MAU. CleverTap Core starts with a 30-day trial, and Braze offers a free trial.
Can I replace Airship's mobile wallet passes?
Pushwoosh lists wallet passes among its channels as of October 2026. Most other platforms in this list focus on push, in-app, SMS and email, so check wallet support directly with any vendor before you plan a migration.
