Short answer
Braze and MoEngage chase the same buyer: a consumer brand with an app, a website and millions of people to message. MoEngage now calls itself the agentic customer engagement platform, and in June 2026 it announced the acquisition of Aampe, a company that runs an AI agent for every end user. Braze sells a platform with its own data layer, a BrazeAI suite and four editions. On a feature checklist they look almost identical. The real differences are in what each puts in the base package, how each counts users and what you pay extra for.

Braze sells four Platform Editions. Braze Go is for early-stage growth teams; Braze Select adds more orchestration, enhanced security and user provisioning; Braze Pro adds predictive AI, AI recommendations and message prioritization; and Braze Enterprise adds enterprise-grade orchestration, infrastructure and governance. A contract combines the edition, a number of Monthly Active Users and profiles, an allotment of Action Credits and CX Services. Action Credits are one currency spent across email, SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp, LINE, KakaoTalk, Content Cards, Banners, webhooks and some BrazeAI products; in Braze's example an SMS may cost 1 credit and a WhatsApp message 5. There is no free plan. Prices are quoted; see Braze pricing, and our full Braze pricing guide for what drives the bill.
MoEngage lists two plans for cross-channel marketing and analytics, Growth and Enterprise, both behind a "Let's Talk" button, plus two separate products: MoEngage Personalize for website personalization and A/B testing, and MoEngage Inform for transactional alerts across channels through a single API. Billing is based on Monthly Tracked Users, and the FAQ states a minimum commitment of one year for Growth and Enterprise. MoEngage says there is no extra charge for adding or updating customer attributes, and that email sending is included through an integration with an email service provider, so you do not license one separately.
The plan matrix is where the real gaps show. Enterprise adds device-triggered and business-event-triggered messages (back in stock, price drop), content blocks, a template manager, tag-based frequency capping, flow debugging, Best Time to Send, Most Preferred Channel, Next Best Action in Flows and the Intelligent Path Optimizer. Access roles, teams and campaign approval workflows are add-ons on Growth and included on Enterprise. Many analytics features, including funnels, retention, user paths and custom dashboards, are add-ons on both. Custom add-ons such as WhatsApp Native, real-time data exports, AI-driven predictions and Content Cards are quoted on request. See MoEngage plans and pricing.
This is the clearest packaging difference. Every Braze edition lists email, push, SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, LINE, in-app messages, Banners, Content Cards, landing pages, feature flags, Audience Sync and webhooks, and its data platform page lists paid media targeting across Criteo, Facebook, Google, Pinterest, Snapchat and TikTok. You still pay for most sends through Action Credits, but you do not sign for a new product to turn a channel on.
MoEngage's Growth and Enterprise plans both include mobile app push, web push, email, SMS, in-app messages, on-site messages (pop-ups, lead capture forms and surveys), Facebook and Google Ads audience sync and webhooks. Cards, landing pages and Connected Channels (WhatsApp, RCS, LINE, Viber and Telegram) are add-ons on both plans. MoEngage also offers custom connectors for IVR systems, OTT platforms, chatbots, call centers and point-of-sale systems. If WhatsApp or RCS is central to your plan, price it into the MoEngage quote from day one.
Braze journeys are built in Canvas, a drag-and-drop builder with branching logic and pre-built journey templates. Every edition includes Campaigns and Canvases, engagement testing, frequency capping and rate limiting, and locations and geofences. Braze lets you set message priority rules once and apply them across all campaigns and Canvases (the pricing page lists Message Prioritization from Braze Pro), and says you can compare 100+ message variants in a single experiment.
MoEngage journeys are called Flows. Both plans include the cross-channel workflow builder, A/B testing branches, wait-until-action steps, conditional splits, flow versioning, flow templates and performance analytics, along with event-triggered and location-triggered messages, campaign and global control groups, and delivery controls. Flow debugging (Debug Flows) is Enterprise only. For a standard onboarding series with an SMS fallback, both will do the job; the gap appears in governance and testing at scale.
The core of the Braze Data Platform is in every edition. Cloud Data Ingestion syncs from Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure and AWS S3, and zero-copy segmentation builds audiences from the warehouse without duplicating data. Braze lists 180+ partner integrations, 100+ out-of-the-box segment filters (or plain-text prompts and SQL), automated identity resolution and anonymous user tracking. Braze says you do not need a separate CDP to use it.
MoEngage covers unified identity, file imports from S3 and SFTP, connected sources and segment exports on both plans. Its Warehouse Segments query Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift and BigQuery at campaign runtime without copying rows into MoEngage, and PII tokenized sending keeps personal data in your warehouse; both are add-ons. Warehouse imports are a speak-to-sales item on Enterprise, and the native Salesforce CRM integration is an Enterprise add-on. Its App Marketplace lists 300+ integrations, and its FAQ names data centers in the EU, North America and India. If your team lives in the warehouse, Braze includes more of this by default.
Braze puts BrazeAI Operator (describe what you want and it builds content, campaigns and Canvases), BrazeAI Agent Console, generative AI, the Intelligence Suite, Personalized Paths, Winning Path and Content Optimizer in every edition, along with BrazeAI Decisioning Studio Go, a self-serve decisioning agent that optimizes send times and content from engagement data. Braze Pro adds predictive AI and AI recommendations. Decisioning Studio Pro is the fully configurable version that optimizes toward any KPI you define. Operator Connect brings Braze into other tools through the Braze MCP.
MoEngage's Merlin AI Native Agents (including Copywriter, Designer, In-App Template Builder, Jinja Assist and Segment Assist) and Merlin AI Custom Agents are add-ons on both plans, as are Offer Decisioning and Campaign Decisioning, which picks the message variation most likely to hit your goal for each user. In June 2026 MoEngage announced its acquisition of Aampe, whose per-user agents bring 1:1 agentic decisioning; MoEngage says Aampe will be available natively to its customers. Trigger delay and content optimization and an MCP Server are on both plans. Both vendors are shipping fast here, so ask for a live demo on your own data before you sign.
Write down the channels you will use in the next 12 months and price them. If that list includes WhatsApp, RCS, LINE or KakaoTalk and your data team wants to run audiences from Snowflake or BigQuery, Braze includes more of it in every edition, and the question becomes whether its credit pricing works at your volume. If your program is mostly push, email, SMS and in-app, MoEngage's core plans cover that, and paying only for the add-ons you actually use can keep the contract tighter. Then run one test: ask each vendor to build the same real journey with your data and quote it at your user count. The cheaper-looking option is not always the cheaper contract.
If neither fits, start with our Braze alternatives for omnichannel marketing and our MoEngage alternatives, which sort options by why teams switch. CleverTap sells to the same app-first brands and publishes an entry price; see Braze vs CleverTap. For ecommerce brands where the store drives most messages, read Klaviyo vs Braze.
Is Braze or MoEngage cheaper?
Neither publishes prices, so there is no list price to compare. Braze quotes a Platform Edition plus Monthly Active Users, profiles, a pool of Action Credits and CX Services. MoEngage quotes its Growth or Enterprise plan on Monthly Tracked Users, plus any add-ons, with a minimum commitment of one year. Ask both for a quote at the same audience size and the same channel mix.
What is the difference between a Braze MAU and a MoEngage MTU?
Braze counts a Monthly Active User as any unique person who records a session on your Braze-connected app or website in a calendar month, and lets you choose whether to track anonymous visitors or only logged-in users. MoEngage counts a Monthly Tracked User as each unique profile that performs at least one session or a defined event in a calendar month, counted once, and says events generated by MoEngage itself (such as notification received or email sent) do not count.
Does MoEngage include WhatsApp and RCS?
Not in the base plans. MoEngage lists Connected Channels (WhatsApp, RCS, LINE, Viber and Telegram) as an add-on on both Growth and Enterprise, and sells WhatsApp Native as a custom add-on. Braze includes WhatsApp, RCS, LINE and KakaoTalk in every edition, paid for through Action Credits.
Which has better AI, Braze or MoEngage?
They package it differently. Every Braze edition includes BrazeAI Operator, BrazeAI Agent Console, Content Optimizer and BrazeAI Decisioning Studio Go, with predictive AI and AI recommendations from Braze Pro. MoEngage sells Merlin AI Native Agents, Custom Agents, Offer Decisioning and Campaign Decisioning as add-ons, and in June 2026 announced the acquisition of Aampe, which deploys an AI agent for each individual user.
Can Braze or MoEngage work directly from a data warehouse?
Both can. Braze includes Cloud Data Ingestion and zero-copy segmentation in every edition and connects to Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure and AWS S3. MoEngage Warehouse Segments query Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift and BigQuery without copying rows into MoEngage; they are an add-on on both plans, and warehouse imports are a speak-to-sales item on Enterprise.
