Short answer
SMS reaches nearly every phone, but it looks the same as it did years ago: plain text, an unfamiliar short code, and a link the customer has to trust. RCS keeps the reach of the native messaging app and adds a verified brand name and logo, images and video, carousels and buttons. For marketers it is the most direct upgrade to an existing SMS program, which is why the main SMS providers now offer it.
Google describes RCS for Business as working on Android and iOS. Infobip lists support for Android 5.0 and later and iOS 18.1 and later, after Apple added RCS in iOS 18. Coverage still depends on the carrier and on whether RCS is turned on, which is why fallback matters.
Each platform had to offer RCS business messaging to new customers in October 2026, give you a way to reach phones that cannot receive RCS, and document the channel on its own site. We read each feature list and price on the vendor's own product page, pricing page or help center in October 2026. Where a provider quotes rates through sales, we say so. We did not send test campaigns.
| Platform | Type | Reaching non-RCS phones | Best for | Price (as of October 2026) |

| Twilio | Messaging API | SMS fallback set in your routing logic | Developers adding RCS to an existing SMS integration | From $0.0083 per message in the US plus carrier fees |
| Sinch | Messaging API and Sinch Engage app | Automatic fallback to SMS or MMS | Global senders who want an API or a marketing app | Set by carriers and message type; through sales |
| Infobip | Omnichannel messaging platform | Smart fallback | Large brands messaging in many countries | Varies by region, carrier and message type |
| Braze | Customer engagement platform | SMS fallback via an SMS sender in the RCS subscription group | Consumer apps running RCS inside cross-channel journeys | Not published |
| Klaviyo | B2C CRM and marketing platform | RCS capability property to target RCS or SMS | Ecommerce brands already texting with Klaviyo | US: 1 credit per basic RCS segment, 3 credits per rich message |
| Attentive | SMS and email marketing platform | Visibility AI picks RCS or SMS per subscriber | Ecommerce brands with large text programs | Not published; demo |
Twilio offers RCS as a generally available channel with branded and verified senders, content cards, quick reply buttons, carousels, in-app web views and rich media. Developers set routing so messages fall back to SMS on devices that do not support RCS, and the same APIs also cover SMS and WhatsApp.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Twilio says rich RCS messages start at the same base rate as standard SMS, $0.0083 per message sent or received in the US, plus standard carrier fees. Strengths: no price penalty for upgrading from SMS; one API for several channels. Limits: it is infrastructure, so marketers need a campaign tool on top.
Sinch sells RCS for Business through its Conversation API, with images, videos, carousels, quick replies and verified profiles, and automatic fallback to SMS or MMS. Marketers who do not want to code can use Sinch Engage, which runs RCS campaigns alongside SMS, MMS and WhatsApp and integrates with HubSpot.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Sinch says pricing is set by carriers and depends on message type, with rates from sales. Strengths: both an API and a no-code option from one vendor. Limits: no public rate card to compare against.
Infobip supports images, videos, buttons and carousels, read receipts and verified sender information, with smart fallback when RCS is not available. It states support on Android 5.0 and later through Google Messages and on iOS 18.1 and later.
Pricing (as of October 2026): flexible pricing shaped by region, carriers and message type, set with Infobip. Strengths: Infobip handles carrier agreements, compliance and delivery. Limits: an enterprise-style buying process.
Braze offers RCS for Business with verified sending, a visual badge, branded threads (name, logo, tagline and contact details), images, GIFs, video, audio, documents and interactive cards, plus read and click analytics. To fall back to SMS, you add an SMS sender to the RCS subscription group and turn on "Send SMS if RCS fails"; reporting separates RCS results from fallback SMS.
Pricing (as of October 2026): not published; Braze prices on monthly active users and message credits. Strengths: RCS becomes one step in a journey with push, email and in-app. Limits: only worth it if you run Braze for more than text. See our push notification services comparison for the app-messaging side.
Klaviyo made RCS for Business generally available for brands sending in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. You request an RCS agent in its text message settings, build RCS messages in the same campaigns and flows as SMS, and can use an RCS capability property on each profile to decide who gets which.
Pricing (as of October 2026): RCS counts against your Mobile Messages plan. In the US, a basic RCS message costs 1 credit per 160-character segment and a single rich RCS message costs 3 credits, and Klaviyo does not currently charge RCS agent fees. Strengths: the easiest move for a store already texting through Klaviyo. Limits: tied to Klaviyo's ecommerce stack.
Attentive brings RCS into its campaigns, journeys and AI Pro with rich cards, product carousels, full-resolution media, tap-to-reply and multiple calls to action, and shows your logo and brand colors in the thread. Its Visibility AI decides whether each subscriber is more likely to engage with an RCS message or an existing SMS conversation.
Pricing (as of October 2026): not published; Attentive sells through demos. Strengths: built for brands whose text channel is already a major revenue line. Limits: no self-serve pricing for smaller stores to compare.
Start with the provider that already sends your SMS: every platform here adds RCS without moving your subscribers. Then plan three things. Set up your RCS agent first, since it has to be submitted for verification before you can send. Design each message so the SMS version still makes sense on its own. And measure RCS and fallback separately so you know what the upgrade earned. If you are still choosing an SMS provider, our guides to SMS marketing platforms and Shopify SMS marketing apps cover that decision, and for customers outside the US, our roundup of WhatsApp marketing platforms covers the other rich messaging channel.
What is RCS business messaging?
RCS business messaging (Google now calls it RCS for Business) lets a brand send rich messages into a phone's default messaging app: a verified sender name and logo, images and video, carousels, and buttons for quick replies. It is the upgrade path for SMS marketing, and messages can fall back to SMS when a phone or carrier does not support RCS.
Does RCS business messaging work on iPhone?
Yes, on recent iOS versions. Google's RCS for Business page says it works on Android and iOS, and Infobip lists support for iOS 18.1 and later. Phones that cannot receive RCS get the SMS fallback instead, which is why every platform here offers a fallback path.
How much does RCS cost compared with SMS?
It depends on the provider and message type. Twilio says rich RCS messages start at the same base rate as SMS in the US, $0.0083 per message plus carrier fees. Klaviyo counts a basic RCS message as 1 credit per segment and a rich single RCS message as 3 credits in the US. Sinch and Infobip quote rates that depend on carriers and message type.
Do I need a new platform for RCS?
Usually not. If you already send SMS through Twilio, Sinch, Infobip, Braze, Klaviyo or Attentive, RCS is offered in the same product, with an RCS agent (your verified sender) set up through the provider and SMS kept for phones without RCS.
