Short answer
Ask five marketers what their analytics tool is and you will get five different kinds of answer: a web analytics product, a spreadsheet fed by a connector, a BI dashboard, an agency reporting portal. They are all right, because marketing analytics is three jobs that different products split up in different ways. This guide picks the strongest tools for each job and says where each one stops.
Small teams can often do all three with free Google tools. Teams running paid media on several platforms usually add a connector, and agencies add a reporting layer built for clients. Deciding what belongs on the dashboard is a separate question; our guide to what a digital marketing analytics dashboard should include covers the metrics. Assigning credit for conversions is also its own category, covered in our roundup of marketing attribution software.
Each tool had to do at least one of the three jobs above for marketing teams, be sold or offered to new users in October 2026, and describe its plans on its own site. We read features, plan names and prices on each vendor's pricing page, product page or documentation in October 2026. Two European vendors list prices in euros, and we quote them that way rather than converting. We did not run the tools on live data.

Google Analytics covers acquisition, engagement, conversion and monetization reports across websites and apps, plus Explorations for funnels, paths, cohorts and segment overlap. Its machine learning predicts actions such as purchase or churn so you can build audiences from them, surfaces insights on its own, and answers questions typed in plain language. Attribution reports include data-driven attribution and model comparison, and it connects to Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Search Console and Google Cloud.
Pricing (as of October 2026): free; Analytics 360 is sold through Google's sales team and adds intraday data freshness, sub-properties and roll-up reporting. Strengths: free, and connected to Google's ad products. Limits: it reports only what your tagging collects, and custom analysis such as funnels and paths lives in Explorations rather than the standard reports.
In April 2026 Google returned Looker Studio to its original name, Data Studio. It is a drag-and-drop report builder that connects to Google data, more than 1,300 Community Connectors, or connectors you build, and it now also serves as a home for BigQuery conversational agents and data apps built in Colab notebooks.
Pricing (as of October 2026): no charge for creators and report viewers; Data Studio Pro is $9 per user per project per month and adds team content management and Google Cloud support. Strengths: a free way to put Google Analytics, Google Ads and sheets on one screen. Limits: it is a reporting layer only, so the dashboard is only as clean as the sources behind it.
Piwik PRO bundles four modules: Analytics, Tag Manager, Data Activation and a consent management platform. It is aimed at teams in regulated industries that need to meet GDPR, HIPAA and CCPA/CPRA requirements, and offers EU-operated hosting, plus US HIPAA-compliant Azure hosting and a business associate agreement on Enterprise.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Business starts from 36 euros a month with a free 30-day trial, covering up to 2 million monthly actions across up to 20 domains and 25 months of data retention. Enterprise, in Data Fundamentals, Trusted Insights and Secure Intelligence tiers, starts from 366 euros a month billed annually. Piwik PRO lists these prices in euros. Strengths: compliance features built in. Limits: Business plan support is through the community forum; dedicated technical support comes with Enterprise.
Matomo is open-source web analytics you can run on your own servers or use as Matomo Cloud, with data stored in Europe. Features included in every plan cover ecommerce, event and campaign tracking, segmentation, customisable dashboards and scheduled email reports, and Cloud lists a Google Analytics data importer. Premium plugins add funnels, heatmaps and session recording, media analytics and search engine keywords.
Pricing (as of October 2026): the On-Premise Community edition is free with unlimited users and hits and forum support. Paid On-Premise bundles with premium plugins and email support start with Team at 230 euros a month billed annually or 275 euros billed monthly (Matomo shows these prices in euros), and Cloud plans are priced by monthly hits with a free trial. Strengths: full data ownership. Limits: self-hosting means you run the servers and updates.
Supermetrics moves data from ad and marketing platforms into a destination of your choice: Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Looker Studio (now Data Studio), its own Supermetrics Studio, or AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot. Enterprise adds warehouse destinations such as Snowflake and BigQuery.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter from $39 a month billed yearly or $49 billed monthly for 1 user and 2 data sources; Growth from $159 a month billed yearly or $199 monthly for 2 users and 7 data sources; Enterprise by quote. Strengths: no new dashboard tool to learn. Limits: extra data sources, users and destinations are paid add-ons, so the bill grows with your stack.
Funnel's Data Hub connects, stores and prepares marketing data, applies your business logic, and sends it to dashboards, BI tools and warehouses. It includes Funnel AI for instant answers from your data and an MCP connection for working with the data in Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools. Its Funnel Measure add-on covers marketing mix modeling, multi-touch attribution and incrementality testing.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter from $300 a month billed annually with 117 connectors; Business from $600 a month billed annually with 579 connectors, Power BI and Tableau destinations and unlimited users; Enterprise custom. Strengths: one dataset for many sources, with your business logic applied. Limits: the entry plan starts at $300 a month billed annually, and Funnel Measure is only available on Business and Enterprise.
Databox connects your data sources to dashboards, reports, goals and anomaly detection, and adds an AI analyst called Genie plus performance summaries; its feature list also includes Genie in Slack.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Free is $0 for 1 user, 3 data sources and 50 AI credits a month. Analyst is $71 a month billed annually for 1 user and 5 data sources, Team starts at $199 a month billed annually, and an Agency plan starts at $79 billed annually plus account packs. Every plan can be trialed for 14 days. Strengths: quick to set up for weekly reporting. Limits: AI use is metered in credits, and the free plan is tight on data sources.
AgencyAnalytics is built for agencies: every client gets unlimited data sources, reports and dashboards, a white-labeled client portal, goals, alerts and anomaly detection, plus AgencyAI insights, across more than 85 marketing integrations.
Pricing (as of October 2026): $20 per client per month billed annually, with a free 14-day trial and no credit card required; volume pricing for 25 or more clients, and paid add-ons for rank tracking and AI search visibility. Strengths: pricing that scales with clients, not staff. Limits: made for client reporting, not for analysis inside a single brand.
Start with collection. If you can use Google Analytics, use it, and add Data Studio for dashboards; that costs nothing. Choose Piwik PRO or Matomo when legal or data-residency requirements rule Google out. Add a connector when manual exports from three or more ad platforms eat into every Monday: Supermetrics if you want the data in a sheet or BI tool you already use, Funnel if you want a managed data hub. Agencies should price AgencyAnalytics per client against Databox's Agency plan.
Analytics tells you what happened, not what caused it. When you need to know which channels actually drive sales, read our guide to marketing mix modeling software, and for AI tools that help produce the campaigns you measure, see our list of the best AI marketing tools. If customer-level data matters more than channel reporting, our roundup of customer data platforms covers that layer.
What is the best free marketing analytics tool?
Google Analytics is free and covers website and app traffic, acquisition, conversions and attribution reporting. Pair it with Data Studio, which is free for report creators and viewers, for dashboards. Matomo On-Premise is a free open-source option if you want to host the data yourself, and Databox has a free plan with one user and three data sources.
What happened to Looker Studio?
Google renamed Looker Studio back to its original name, Data Studio, in April 2026. It is still free for creators and report viewers, and Data Studio Pro adds team content management and Google Cloud support for $9 per user per project per month.
Is marketing analytics the same as marketing attribution?
No. Analytics tools collect and report what happened on your site and in your campaigns. Attribution tools assign credit for conversions to touchpoints, and marketing mix modeling estimates channel impact from aggregate spend and sales data. Google Analytics includes attribution reports, but dedicated tools go further.
Do I need a data connector like Supermetrics or Funnel?
Only when you report on several ad and marketing platforms together. Connectors pull data from those platforms into a sheet, BI tool, warehouse or dashboard, which replaces manual exports. One website and one ad account rarely need one.
