Short answer
A loyalty program gives customers a reason to come back that is not another discount code: points they can spend, a tier they do not want to lose, a referral reward for bringing a friend. The software decides how much work that takes to run. This roundup covers both ends of the market, from apps a Shopify merchant installs from the App Store to engines that power loyalty for large retailers.
Whichever you choose, loyalty works best when it connects to the rest of your lifecycle marketing: a points balance in a win-back email, a tier upgrade that triggers a thank-you message. Our customer retention tools guide covers how loyalty fits with the other retention layers.
Each tool had to offer points, rewards or tiers as a core product, be sold to new customers in October 2026, and describe its plans on its own site. We read every price and plan name on the vendor's own pricing page in October 2026 and note whether pricing depends on orders, data volume or a quote. We did not run paid trials.

Talon. One describes itself as an omnichannel promotion and loyalty engine for loyalty management, offer management and personalized promotions across channels. Its plans start at a minimum of 500,000 coupons on Starter.
Pricing (as of October 2026): Starter, Professional and Enterprise, each priced on data volume with individual offers from sales. Strengths: one rules engine for coupons, promotions and loyalty. Limits: built for engineering-led teams rather than a single marketer.
Salesforce sells Loyalty Management as an add-on on its Marketing Cloud pricing page, alongside Marketing Cloud Next editions, Personalization and Marketing Intelligence.
Pricing (as of October 2026): $20,000 per org a month, billed annually. Strengths: loyalty data lives with Salesforce customer, service and marketing data. Limits: only realistic for large companies already on Salesforce.
Count your monthly orders first, because most ecommerce apps price on them. A store doing a few hundred orders a month can launch on Smile.io's or LoyaltyLion's free plan and upgrade when VIP tiers start to matter. Brands with stores and apps to connect, or with promotions that need tight rules, should talk to Antavo or Talon.One. Then make sure loyalty events reach your messaging tools, so points and tiers show up in email and SMS; our roundups of ecommerce marketing automation platforms and website personalization software cover those layers, and our list of customer retention emails shows where a loyalty balance can earn its place.
What is the best loyalty program software for a Shopify store?
For a new or small store, Smile.io is the easiest start: its free plan covers points and referrals for up to 200 monthly orders, and Essential costs $15 a month. Rivo, Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals and LoyaltyLion suit growing stores that want VIP tiers and deeper integrations, with paid plans from $49, $199 and $199 a month respectively as of October 2026.
Is there free loyalty program software?
Yes. Smile.io has a free plan for up to 200 monthly orders, Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals has a free plan, and LoyaltyLion recommends its free plan for stores processing 400 orders or fewer a month. Free plans cover basic points and referrals; VIP tiers and integrations usually need a paid plan.
What is the difference between a loyalty app and a loyalty engine?
A loyalty app such as Smile.io or LoyaltyLion installs into an ecommerce store and gives you a ready-made points, referral and VIP program. A loyalty engine such as Talon. One or Antavo is a platform your team configures and connects through APIs, which suits retailers running loyalty across stores, apps and websites.
How is loyalty software priced?
Shopify-focused apps usually price by monthly order volume (Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Rivo). Enterprise engines price by data volume or contract (Talon. One bases plans on data volume) or quote through sales (Antavo). Salesforce lists Loyalty Management as a Marketing Cloud add-on at $20,000 per org a month, billed annually.
